Who am I?
I am a Speech and Language Therapist who has been working in the Helderberg and Cape Winelands since 2007. My approach to assessment, intervention, and case management is descriptive in nature. Essentially this means that I consider a client’s linguistic strengths and weaknesses against the background of typical development, rather than quantifying response rates. Whilst my approach is more time- and labour-intensive, it is my belief that it adds a wealth of information which allows me to support my clients in their unique communicative journeys.
I provide services in both English and Afrikaans and I strive to serve my clients and their respective school communities with grace, courtesy, and professionalism … with a good helping of fun and humour along the way. Services are provided at both mainstream and Montessori schools and this balance also adds a rich depth of perspective to different intervention strategies.
Whilst services can be provided for different ages, my main caseload falls in the pre-school and primary school ages. Support is provided for areas including, but not limited to: – Articulation (Speech sound difficulties) – Receptive language (Understanding of language) – Expressive language (Using language in spoken and written contexts) – Fluency (Managing “Stuttering”) – Phonological awareness (Sound awareness and the ability to manipulate sounds) – Auditory processing (Listening to information and making sense of it).
